Gabbi O’Connell
Program Director/ Coach
This is Gabbi O’Connell’s 4th season on the MSU Pompon Coaching Staff. Gabbi has been involved in pompon for over 13 years. She started her pom career with South Lyon Pompon where she was on varsity for 4 years and served as a team captain her senior year. In addition, Gabbi was also selected as a Mid American Pompon All Star for her senior year. After Gabbi graduated high school in 2014, she was selected as a member of the Michigan State University Pompon team. During her sophomore year, Gabbi served as the team’s Private Team Clinic Coordinator, helping to facilitate clinics and workshops to strengthen the high kick and pompon skills of middle school and high school teams. In her junior year, Gabbi was appointed Co-Assistant Captain and later Co-Captain her senior year. Gabbi graduated from Michigan State University in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Science and a minor in Pharmacology and Toxicology. She currently lives in Livonia where she works as a Regional Program Coordinator for Camp Kesem, a non profit organization who provide support and a week of free summer camp for children affected by a parent’s cancer.

Ari Mattioli
Program Director/ Coach
This will be Ari Mattioli’s 2nd season on the MSU Pompon Coaching Staff. Ari has been involved with pompon for 10 years. She started her pom career with Plymouth-Canton Middle School Pompon where she was a member for 1 year. From there she moved to Canton Pompon where she was on JV for 1 year and Varsity for 3 years where in her senior year she served as team captain. Ari was also selected as a Mid American Pompon All Star for all three of her varsity years. After Ari graduated high school in 2018, she was selected as a member of the Michigan State University Pompon Team. During her sophomore year, Ari served as the team’s Spirit Chair helping with all social media aspects and the planning of the Annual Parent/Alumni Tailgate. In her junior year, Ari was appointed Co-Assistant Captain and later that year Co-Captain, she then continued as Co-Captain throughout her senior year. In addition, Ari was a member of the Mid American Pompon Summer Camp Staff for 3 years. With this she was able to work with 10+ teams over the summer to help them start off their new seasons with success. She currently lives in the East Lansing area where she is employed for Graduate Hotels as their Culture Champion in the Human Resources Department.
